What does masr advocate for?

MASR advocates for local, state, and federal initatives that align with the legislative priorities that our Delegate Assembly votes on annually,

MASR’s LEGISLATIVE PRIORITES

As voted on by the MASR Delegate Assembly on October 15th, 2022

  • The ability for Student Representatives to cast votes on their school committees is a critical step to ensuring that they are able to collaborate closely with their adult counterparts in finding solutions to build better education systems.

  • Personal Financial Literacy is an essential skill that applies to every single person. Yet, this skill is not being taught to every one of our students. MASR believes that every student should take part in standalone financial literacy coursework before graduating high school.

  • Although Massachusetts is the best state in the nation when it comes to education, there is still work that we can do to continuously make it better, especially in the fields of career-based experiences, comprehensive health education, diverse studies, civics education, and more.

Recent efforts have enhanced the quality of our curricula and statewide frameworks, but MASR is committed to working closely with other educational organizations and institutions to continue reaching higher.

  • Student Representatives across the state are working hard to ensure that their peers are able to have access to nutritious meals at school so that they can focus on reaching their potential as scholars and people.

Furthermore, the importance of adequately funding school transit systems , especially in rural communities in the Commonwealth, is of the utmost importance to fulfilling the promise of an education for every pupil.

  • Time spent in classrooms should be spent teaching content and fostering discussion, not teaching to a test. As such, MASR supports the further investigation of alternatives to the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System, including additional pathways for students to showcase their creativity and consistent academic excellence in obtaining the competency determination from the state. MASR also supports the expansion of accomodations in testing environments for those students whose first language is not English so that any tests are truly measuring mastery of content, not of languge.
